MFN Radio Mission Statement & Vision

How did MFN Radio come to be?

Miawpukek First Nation (MFN) Radio is the brainchild of Trevor Stride. Trevor has always had a keen interest in being involved in radio and television since being on the Janeway Telethon so many times over the years. Trevor has never been a stranger to the mic and will leap at every opportunity to get on TV or do a radio interview at powwow.

Trevor followed an opportunity to be on the radio through the help of his friends at Ryakuga Radio, when they set up shop at the 2015 powwow. This was part of a temporary radio station project to see if a radio station was a viable option in Conne River.

In addition to stealing airtime on TV and radio every chance he gets, Trevor has been co-emcee of the annual powwow for years.

Trevor has developed many connections over the years with people who work in radio and TV and has yearned to follow in their footsteps. The idea of MFN Radio, an aboriginal, community-based radio station was conceived when it was proposed, by Trevor, to MFN Chief and Council. A committee made up of people supporting Trevor’s idea for a station was formed, and MFN Radio as we know it was born.

What is our indigenous background?

MFN Radio is on Miawpukek First Nation (Conne River), Newfoundland & Labrador. We are nestled in the heart of Newfoundland’s only Mi’kmaq reserve.

Our station will promote and share the values of our indigenous heritage and cultural values.
